Oh Billy
A little known fact about me is that I love Shakespeare. I own the complete Folgers collection and have read almost all of them, many more than once. I’ve visited his home in Stratford-upon-Avon, seen Twelfth Night at the (recreated) Globe in London, and performed in Taming of the Shrew, Midsummer Night’s Dream, Much Ado About Nothing and Macbeth.
A much better known fact about me is that I love comedy.
Therefore, it follows that The Improvised Shakespeare Company, a small comedy troupe from Chicago that performs an entirely improvised Shakespearean play each show, is my favorite thing in the world. This weekend I attended two of their five shows and was, yet again, blown away. Their grasp of the language, themes, character devices and come-together endings perfected by Shakespeare is complete and awe-inspiring, not to mention absolutely hilarious. I cannot recommend this show enough. Next time they are in town, GO!
